This is the home page of the Scottish Esperanto Association, a registered Scottish Charity - SC042398.
Esperanto is a planned language. It was created to be much easier to learn than national languages, and to be neutral i.e. not associated with any country or political philosophy. Most people who have learned Esperanto would agree that it "does what it says on the tin". With regular study and practice you could achieve competence within a year and fluency within two years. There are Esperanto clubs throughout the world and many congresses and other events take place every year. With even the basics of Esperanto and a vocabulary of around 900 words, it is possible to hold an intelligent conversation with other Esperantists almost as if you were with friends at home. The language barriers disappear, difference vanishes and you experience, perhaps for the first time, the common humanity shared with every other person on the planet.
