Lidia Zamenhof honoured

During the Zamenhof Festival which took place on Saturday 4th December 2004 in Aberdour Boat Club, Jean Bisset, The President of SEA, spoke cogently about the life and death of Lidia Zamenhof, the daughter of Dr. Zamenhof, the creator of Esperanto. 2004 was the centenary of her birth. Lidia was almost feminist in her opinions, and made a significant contribution to Esperanto translations from Polish. She became a member of the Bahai faith; but that did not save her from being murdered at Treblinka.

Hugh Reid spoke about Esperanto publicity in France. His source of information was a French Esperantist who recently visited Glasgow.

David Bisset provided interesting analysis of visitors to the Scottish web site: they have come in recent months from 50 countries, and are staying for a satisfactory period.

After these contributions the birthday of Zamenhof was festively celebrated; and not a word of English was heard!

Fourteen persons attended the event. The practical arrangements were made by David Hannah, our well known Aberdour representative.

The Firth of Forth looked almost Mediterranean in the bright sunshine.
