| Scottish Esperanto Congress 2001The town of Motherwell, the administrative centre of North Lanarkshire, is the chosen venue for next years Scottish Congress (4-6 May 2001). It is ideally to host this event as it is close to both Glasgow and Edinburgh, but also easily reached from most parts of Britain because it lies on the main London to Glasgow railway line. The Congress will take place in the Bentley Hotel which is a mere two minutes walk from the Railway Station and in Motherwell town centre itself. Not only is the Bentley known for the high standard of its cuisine, but a new conference suite has just been opened; so we may expect first class facilities. The Bentley Hotel Motherwell, Congress HQThe theme chosen for the Congress is the industrial history and heritage of Lanarkshire with reference mad to the contributions made by immigrant groups such as the Irish and the Lithuanians. The award-winning Motherwell Heritage Centre is adjacent to the Bentley, but visits are also planned to Summerlee Industrial Museum in Coatbridge (Saturday PM) and the Carfin Pilgrimage Centre (Sunday AM). Motherwell Heritage CentreFor those who wish to stay until the Monday, a trip to the little-known rural areas of the Clyde Valley is also a possibility. EAS members will receive a programme in due course; others please apply to the Scottish Esperanto Association from late November. Charles Dornan |
