Please note that the Congress starts at 17:15 on Friday  2nd June and finishes at 16:45 on Sunday 4th June.

 

There will be two optional excursions on Monday 5th June:

 

Stirling Castle                                                   at 10am

 

The Bannockburn Heritage Centre                    at 12:45pm

 

 

The Congress will take place in the modern well- equipped Lecture Theatre of the Stirling Smith.  Light meals, including the evening meal on Friday  and lunch on Saturday, are available, and we have the use of a kitchen to prepare coffee and tea.  There is  good  parking an an interesting garden.

 

The main theme will be communication, espaecially in relation to Stirling.  Our guest speaker will be S-ro Kresimir Barkovic, from Paris, who is General Secretary of SAT. S-ro David Bisset will take us for an archtectural walk in the area and S-ro Jack Casey has agreed to introduce the Falkirk Wheel before we visit it on Sunday.  Other speakers will be S-ro David Kelso and S-ro Hugh Reid.  S-ro Duncan Thomson has agreed to help with the entertainment.

 

Their willingness to particiapte is much appreciated.

 

 

STIRLING

 

Stirling estas urbo kun historio.  Ĝi situas en la centra parto de Skotlando, apud la rivero Forth kie la vojoj norden kaj suden kunvenas.  Sur preskaŭ ne kaptebla roko estas Stirling Kastelo – kiu tenis tiun tenis Skotlandon.

 

La temo de nia kongreso estas komuniko, amika aŭ malamika.  La Romanianoj atingis Roughcastle, sude de Stirling, kie ili konstruis la muron  Antonine.   William Wallace venkis la Angloj je la Ponto Stirling - tiu ponto estis preskaŭ la sola ligo intrer la Gaeloj en la Altlandoj kaj la Skotoj en la Malaltlandoj.  Dum la jaro 1314 la reĝo Robert 1a  venkis la Anglojn apud Bannockburn.  De tiu tempo ĝis la deknaŭaj jaroj de la pasinta jarcento estis garnizono en Stirling Kastelo.

 

Dum pasintaj jaroj oni pelis brutojn al Stirling por vendi.  La naŭdeka jarcento vidis la kreskon de vagonaroj, kun ligoj el Londono al Aberdeen.  Nuntempe Stirling estas atingebla per aŭtoj, busoj au  vagonaroj.

From Glasgow follow the M8.  At junction 2 take the M80 Stirling Road and follow this to  junction 9.  Then take the A872 past Bannockburn.  At the first roundabout take the left fork, B8052.  Keep straight on, past the traffice lights at the Stirling Council Offices.  At the next lot of traffic lights turn left into Dumbarton Road.  Continue along Dumbarton Road: The Stirling Smith Museum is on the right hand side.

 

From Edinburgh take the M9 Stirling Road.  Leave the M9 at junction 9 and continue as above.

 

There are frequent train services from Glasgow, Queen Street and Edinburgh, Waverly, and aslo frequent bus services.  At Stirling walk up the hill via Station Street, Murray Place and Port Street.  From Port Street turn right along Dumbarton Road. ( About 20 minutes walk).

 

There is free parking at the Stirling Smith.
